What’s in a name?

In terms of online motorcycle gift buying, it’s useful to know a few brands so you can readily determine if you’re selecting something for motorcycle riders or young boys.

For example, whoda thunk the name “JOE ROCKET” would make a good name for motorcycle gear? To me, I conjure up an 8-year old boy playing with his GI Joe and Joe Rocket action figures fighting interstellar battles to save the world.

But “Joe Rocket” is not an action figure – although I guess you could say it serves men and women in motorbike action.

The fact is, JOE ROCKET MOTORCYCLE GEAR markets all kinds of leather and textile riding gear for men and women: jackets, pants, gloves, boots, shirts, tank bags, helmets, and more.

Joe Rocket motorcycle gear is also branded for Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda, as well as separately for Honda’s “Gold Wing” line of gear, so it’s possible you might be buying a Joe Rocket gift for yourself or someone else even if it doesn’t say “Joe Rocket” on it.

I’ve purchased a few Joe Rocket jackets over the years. In the hyper-competitive world of motorcycle apparel, “Joe Rocket” does represent a brand name – even though I am inclined to add a GI Joe sticker on my helmet to complete the look. Joe Rocket gear does have a one-year warranty and I can’t complain about the jackets that I have purchased (other than the name).

Perhaps I need to think like an 8-year old again, and contemplate riding to the stars with my Joe Rocket Motorcycle Gear to save the world as GI Joe….
