Why So Many Motorcycle Lights?

Motorcycle Lights

WHAT DO LOTS AND LOTS OF LIGHTS SAY ABOUT THE RIDER?

If motorcycles are truly an extension of one’s personality, what does that mean about the guys and gals that like to add LOTS and LOTS of lights to their favorites motorbikes?

In other words, what kind of person would want MORE MOTORCYCLE LIGHTS as a gift, you might ask?

MORE LIGHTS DO MEAN GREATER VISIBILITY

Most riders leave their motorcycle lights as they came from the factory. But even so, eventually, they will at least need some replacement bulbs for their headlight, brake lights, or any of the truly necessary lamps.

From a practical and safety perspective, more lights on a bike DO increase a rider’s visibleness on the road and would seem to increase the ability for others to see him/her.

Of course, auxiliary driving lights provide more illumination on the roadway ahead, for night riding, which offer obvious safety benefits on their own.

And then you’ve got the guys who add soooooo many lights on their bike they look light a two-wheel rendition of Christmas in Las Vegas.

And what kinds of motorcycle lights are we talking about?

TYPES OF MOTORCYCLE LIGHTS

  • Headlights
  • Turn Signals
  • Brake Lights
  • Indicator Bulbs
  • License Plate Lights
  • Tail Lights
  • Driving Lights
  • Fog Lights
  • Light Bars
  • Accent Lights
  • Light Strips

Such lights can include replacement light bulbs as well as upgraded brighter bulbs, and/or entire light units with LED, halogen and other light sources. The last few in that list are purely for cosmetics.

So, what do all those extra lights mean about the rider?

I don’t know. Your guess is as good as mine. I certainly don’t think they should be put away from society. Maybe they weren’t allowed to have a night light when they were a kid when they were afraid of the dark. Having said that, and regardless of any safety benefit from adding cosmetic lights to every square inch of a motorcycle, I would bet such a rider simply likes lights….
